JESÚS the High Priest
JESÚS is our high priest. This position HE did not take on HIMSELF for scripture states in Hebrews 5:5b “But GOD said to HIM, ‘You are my Son; today I have become your father.’” 6b “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.”
Verses 7 and 8 explain with somewhat scant detail the sacrifices our Lord made for mankind. Through this and by this (sacrifice), our savior became the perfect source of eternal salvation for the faithful (those who believe). GOD has designated HIM a high priest in the order of Melchizedek.
It is pertinent to note that a clear distinction exists between “infants” and “the mature” in CHRIST. It is instructive to know that “the mature” by constant use (of solid food) have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil (v14).
As believers, we must choose either to remain infants or grow into maturity. We must feed on solid food. Now what separates the infant from the mature is the intractable desire to acquaint oneself with the teaching about righteousness (an incandescent aspiration for righteousness) (v13). Though elusive, for we are human with frailties (Psalm 90:12, Job 14: 2), an aspiration for righteousness puts us on the right path to achieving maturity in CHRIST.
