The Book of Hebrews Chapter 13 NIV

Hebrews 13 concludes our study of the Book of Hebrews. There are several exhortations to the Christian brother and sister in their (our) faith walk with the Lord.

We are to:

  • Love one another
  • Show hospitality to strangers
  • Remember prisoners and the mistreated
  • Honor marriage and the marriage bed, for GOD will judge the adulterer and the sexually immoral
  • Eschew the love of money
  • Be content
  • Live a life of faith in JESUS CHRIST (v1-8)

We are to be wary of strange teachings and the eating of ceremonial food (v9). We are encouraged to praise GOD continuously, openly professing HIS name (v16).

In the benediction and final greetings, the writer prays that “our Lord JESUS, that great shepherd of the sheep, equip [us] with everything good for doing HIS will and may HE work in us what is pleasing to HIM, through JESUS CHRIST, to whom be glory forever and ever. AMEN (v20).

The book of Hebrews chapter 13 ends with exhortations, a benediction, and final greetings from the writer. Perhaps, Hebrews 13 is anticlimactic because it coalesces teaching elucidated in previous chapters. If ever, and there always is, a need to remind ourselves of the depth of GOD’s incredible love of us; an overarching desire to know GOD’s expectation(s) of us, and the inclination to ponder on the circumference of the expanded office of our Lord and Savior, JESUS the CHRIST, Hebrews is the book in the Bible to visit.

As we thumb through the Bible, Hebrews is one of the books in the New Testament that stays the hand. As we study the book of Hebrews, may we have cause for introspection as we reflect on each verse. May we feed on the solid food found therein as we transition from “infants” to “the mature.”

May the name of the Lord our GOD be gloried always!
