The Book of Hebrews Chapter 6

The book of Hebrews Chapter six (6) buttresses teachings enunciated in Hebrews five (5). Men and women of Christian faith are commanded, if I dare to use that word in this season, “to move beyond the elementary teachings about CHRIST and be taken forward to maturity (v1a).” As Believers, we must forsake activity that may lead to the demise of the spirit, and of the flesh – actions that require repentance and are answerable to on judgement day (v1b-3).

Verses 4 – 6 articulates in very clear and concise language, the irredeemable consequences of tasting the “heavenly gift” and “falling away” thereafter. It is likened to “crucifying the Son of GOD all over again and subjecting HIM to public disgrace (v6b).” There are those who will receive the Blessings of GOD, and then there are those who are in danger of, and will be cursed (burned) (v7-8).

The fourth and fifth paragraphs of Hebrews 6 reminds us of GOD’s promise to Father Abraham. Because there was and is no one greater for GOD “to swear by, HE swore by HIMSELF (v13).”

As spiritual descendants of Father Abraham,* we are assured that if we follow in the footsteps of Father Abraham, as heirs of what was promised, GOD confirmed by an oath (v17), GOD will surely Bless us and give us many descendants. Furthermore, if we wait patiently, we will receive what was promised (v14-15).
