JESUS CHRIST, The High Priest of a New Covenant

The Book of Hebrews Chapter 8

Hebrews 8 reiterates with particular emphasis teachings establishing our Lord and Savior, JESUS the CHRIST as High Priest of a new covenant. For there is a new covenant and a new High Priest. Yes, there are high priests here on earth but none comparable in any way with JESUS. Verse 5 reads, “They (high priests) serve at a sanctuary that is a copy and shadow of what is in Heaven.” There is something wrong with the first covenant (v7) and that is why we have another (new covenant).

Of the new covenant, our GOD says:

“I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts.

I will be their GOD and they will be my people (v10b).

GOD goes further to say, “For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more (v12).

For this covenant is “new” and the old one is obsolete (v13).

With these pronouncements, we are ushered into a new season, a new era, a new relationship with GOD; a relationship where we have an arbiter, JESUS, interceding continuously, unendingly for those who believe in the power of the resurrected CHRIST. When GOD found fault with the children of Israel because of their infidelity (v8), HE made a promise fulfilled at the cross. When GOD says, “I will be their GOD and they will be my people (v10c),” “… they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest. For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more (v11b-12),” GOD is not referring to everyone, sad though that may be. Our GOD is referring to those whom HE has chosen; those who recognize, acknowledge, trust and believe in HIM, those HE has revealed HIMSELF to – the faithful!
