The Book of Hebrews Chapter 10

The Book of Hebrews Chapter 10 reveals that “the law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming – not the realities themselves.” Invariably, the law is a promise, the promise of what is to come and not a fulfilment or the realization of that promise. How will the law, this promise we so earnestly desire be fulfilled, we might ask? Definitely not by the blood of bulls and goats, the Bible assures us for JEHOVAH despises – does not desire, is not pleased with – burnt offerings and sin offerings (v4-5).

Verse 12 affirms that “when [High Priest JESUS] offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, HE sat down at the right hand of GOD.” “For by one sacrifice, HE has made perfect forever those who are being made holy (v14).” The Holy spirit testifies that GOD will put the law in our hearts and write them on our minds; HE will remember our sins and lawless acts no more. “And when they have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary (v15-18).”

The second half of Hebrews 10 is a call to persevere in faith. Does the writer of the book of Hebrews vacillate on matters that concern faith and the lack thereof or deliberate sinning and the consequences thereof? Most assuredly, the writer does not. Believers are encouraged to hold on fervently to their confidence in GOD for this (confidence in GOD) will be richly rewarded (v37). Men and women of Christian faith must “persevere so that when [they] have done the will of GOD, [they] will receive what HE has promised (v36).
